Restaurant Review: Matsuhisa Vail

Today I dined at one of Vail’s best restaurants. I can’t say best becasue I’m partial to Sweet Basil, where I’ve worked for the past 15 weeks. But really Sweet Basil is the best restaurant in town. Anyway, Matsuhisa is a Nobu Matsuhisa restaurant. Who is most known for his Nobu restaurants around the world.

The restaurant is in a stunning setting in the middle of the solaris plaza. The views of the slopes a some of the best from any restaurant. As is the case with almost everything in Vail they had some steeply discounted options available. To start I ordered a couple items off the spring menu: the wagyu beef taco and the black sea bass lettuce roll. Both for $5 each.

This is where the discounts stopped. From here I ordered waygu beef nigiri and toro tartar with osetra caviar.

The toro tartar was overly ground although it tasted great. The wagyu beef nigiri on the other hand was amazing.

This was probably the first time I’ve had a Japanese beer that was brewed in Japan. Saporo and Kirin are both brewed in North America.

Overall Matsuhisa is an awesome place although it can get expensive. I’m still not sure what to think of the value for money. The setting and views are best in Vail.
